Hope on Trial
Hope’s grandparents were pulled into court by the Terrorist organisation in order for them to ascertain her whereabouts. Most likely, her grandparents would be tortured and reveal this information. Wouldn’t most people under duress do this? They could lie and say they didn’t know where hope was to be found. Most likely they would get tortured anyways and could keep lying until getting tortured enough to tell the truth. Or they could simply tell the truth upfront and reveal her whereabouts before any torturing took place. In all likelihood this was a hopeless situation. What would hope’s grandparents say? Would they give up her location? Would the family be tortured one by one until someone spoke? What would they say in that moment?
I know that if you know the truth, you’re not to worry about what to say. In that moment someone else will speak on your behalf. So did her grandparents have the right word to say in that moment? They did not want to reveal their whereabouts and did not want to turn hope’s mom over to her brother-in-law for re-marriage. Thankfully, hope’s grandparents didn’t reveal her location. Hope’s grandparents escaped the clutches of court by forking over $8,000 to the terrorist organisation that acts as the reigning authorities. That’s a lot of money for that country!!! Where did hope’s grandparents even come up with that money?
Hope’s grandparents sold all they owned for this moment so that in their moment of trial they did not have to worry about what to say. They had sold their property and house in advance of hope’s departure and, therefore, in this moment they didn’t have to say more than words. Only numbers counted. If they did not have the requisite sum prepared in advance they might have paid with their lives instead.
Could you do the same? Could you sell all your possessions to save someone you love? Even if it meant them physically leaving you forever? Do you prepare in advance for possible loss, so that when the time comes you can give away your wealth freely? What if you were forced to give away all of your possessions? Where do you store your wealth? What is that container, vehicle, platform or foundation built upon?
Hope’s grandparents paid $8,000 to the terrorists to let them go (home?). Hope’s grandparents have gone from owning their own land and living in their own house to becoming foreigners in the land, living on someone else’s land. However, it was an easy choice to give these possessions up rather than to hand their daughter over to an evil man and his ways, and lose hope in the future. Her grandparents sold their property and home in preparation for this moment and gave it away freely, so that hope’s journey could thrive and she could grow in her new country. Could you do the same? Could you do something similar for someone else and give away all that you own to the poor? Or give even half your possessions away?
Of course, this is all a made up story... Or is it? Only paid subscribers to my blog will know the truth! Yes, you must pay the cost if you want to see the truth that lies behind the digital curtain below! It requires a small sacrifice to verify the truth but one which I think is small given the world most of us live in.
