Thank God my identity is in Christ
I can imagine if my identity was in my job. It would suck. I would be constantly stressed. My whole world (or at least schedule) would revolve around job responsibilities.
If you read my last post, you’ll know I’ve had 4 interviews with 3 employers over the span of a month, and I’ve been offered 2 jobs. One of the jobs, let’s just call it LA, is ridicuously insane. After the second interview, things went silent for 3 weeks. I thought I didn’t get the job. Then I got a call from HR saying they had lost access to their systems and I needed to resubmit my materials. So I did. Then they called again saying
I’ve just had a horrible HR experience. I finished a second interview and then heard nothing from the employer for 3 weeks. I assumed that I did not get the job, but then my HR handler called me and said they weren’t able to access their systems for the last few weeks, and just got the go ahead to re-contact their applicants again. She asked me to resubmit my materials. I asked if she wanted the same resume that I applied with online, or an updated one. She said only needed a resume showing the relevant experience. Okay… So I stripped back some other positions and expanded the details in my most relevant positions. Then about a week later she called again to ask if I could resubmit my files? Huh? Didn’t you just ask for them last week? So anyways, I did it again. Then about another week later she called asking for my SSN. She wanted to get a head start on processing my paperwork, and their systems were still down. That was very suspect. But I did recognize her voice and the phone number, and she was the same person who had been contacting via email previously and had scheduled my interviews. So I gave her my SSN. Didn’t hear back for another two weeks and then randomly got a call from her, asking me when I could come down to fill out paperwork. This was a good and bad sign. Bad that they still hadn’t gotten anything accomplished. Good because asking me to fill out the forms in person meant I got the job. Going in person to fill out the forms was my assurance of getting the job. I would've flown the next day but she said the next available appointment was 6 days out, but I could choose between two times: 12 noon or 12:30p.m. ??? That’s like the same thing, especially for someone who’s not in town. She pencilled me in for 12:30 p.m.
On the day off the appointment I arrived unannounced an hour earlier but there were already other people there. Apparently these other prospective employees received a call from their HR handler to come early. They would try and process everyone earlier because someone had double booked the room at 1 p.m. Stupidly, the whole process took longer because it was the same number of staff, now dealing with twice the number of applicants at the same time.
It was also a really stupid process because the only thing they needed from me in person were my fingerprints. This is the only employer I know of who does not accept livescan or some other federally verified third party vendor to process fingerprints and background checks.
I kept checking up on the status and my HR handler, who did not handle me in person the day of the appointment, said she had no confirmation that I showed up to my appointment, despite my having signed and filled out the forms. Finally, 10 days later she calls and says my fingerprints never went through. I will have to go down again in person to give them my fingerprints.
Farsical. This is a major rant post. I’m almost tempted to move back to Cambodia. Seriously.
