The Beach
Hope you are doing well. I’ve signed up for a six month apartment lease and also received a 6 month visa here. It's been good to find a semi-permanent lease here so I'm not always on the move.
One method of staying long term is on a student visa. In order to attain a student visa one has to get a supporting letter from a school that you are enrolled in their program. I am taking language classes and my school will only provide a letter if I pay upfront for courses; the cost of 6 courses is $3,000. So rather than do this I just paid $300 to get a visa without documents. This is the way. I won't lie though - there are plenty of other places cheaper than here and I do think where else I can fly to. In fact, this is the most expensive place in Southeast Asia. However, I have a mission here.
My goal is to open up a guesthouse. I would like to operate a small guesthouse where people can rest, relax, receive, respond and recreate. I’ve identified the island to do business. Current lodging ranges from $35 a night for a bug infested bungalow to $1,000 a night! The range of budgets served is diverse and as a first time entrepreneur this would be a good place to do business because it is easy to recoup costs. It is, however, a rather undeveloped island with not even a supermarket on the island. Despite these logistic deficiencies, with limited accommodation options and no branded chains, the place is right for starting a small guesthouse.
